Frequently Asked Questions

What if I am late to my appointment?
If you are late to your appointment, the session will be provided as scheduled and end on that time. You will be charged the full amount . This time has been reserved for you and cannot affect another clients treatment time.

When should I not get a massage?
There are several contraindications for receiving a massage. If you have any of the following conditions, you should NOT get a massage:
  • Fever
  • Any type of infectious disease
  • Systemic infections
  • Severe cold
  • Fracture, bleeding, burns or other acute injury
  • Liver and kidney diseases
  • Blood clot
  • Pregnancy-induced diabetes, toxemia, preeclampsia/eclampsia
  • High blood pressure (unless under control with medication)
  • Heart disease
  • Open skin lesions or sores (therapist may choose to work around them if localized)
The guidelines here are generalized for some more common ailments. You don't want the massage to make an underlying medical condition worse, and you don't want to pass anything contagious to the massage therapist. If you're unsure about whether a minor condition should prohibit you from getting a massage, call your therapist before your appointment. Some conditions may require a physician’s release before treatment will be provided.

What exactly is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy includes a wide variety of therapeutic approaches, working to improve an individual's health and well being through hands-on manipulation of muscles and other soft tissues of the body.

What can I expect when I go for a massage appointment?
For your first appointment you will want to come 10 minutes early to fill out a Health History and Client-Therapist Agreement form. This will give us both a chance to connect on a personal level and answer any questions you may have. This gives us time to assess your body's condition to determine your treatment needs and goals.

Are there any preparations I need to make before my appointment?
It is a good idea to hydrate by drinking water (before and after your treatment) because we will be flushing toxins out of your tight muscles and you want them to be flushed out of your body. Also, good hygiene is important, so please plan accordingly, we do not have a shower facility at our location.

Do I have to take my clothes off?
You may undress to your own comfort level. Some people choose to undress completely while others keep undergarments on. Throughout the massage you will be covered by a sheet and we will only undrape the body part being worked on. Please keep in mind that some areas can be treated more effectively when the therapist is able to completely expose the area (ie. Glute/Backside)

What if I am uncomfortable with my body?
Please don't let this stop you. You're denying yourself quite a relaxing experience. Massage therapists have seen bodies in every imaginable shape, size, age, and physique. We're professionals who have found massage to be a wonderful gift to give to men and women alike, regardless their body type. We are proud of what we can offer to people in need of relief from muscular discomfort or just wanting to alleviate life’s stresses.

Am I expected to talk during the massage?
The key to a massage is relaxation and allowing yourself to enjoy the experience. We try not to encourage too much conversation so you can be in tune with your body. It's not uncommon for many people to feel more relaxed by talking. Talking makes the therapist become more human and personal to them, and having this interaction makes it easier for them to place their trust in the therapist, and therefore make it easier for them to relax. Many clients talk in the initial stages of a massage, and as the massage progresses they become quiet, they slip farther into a state of total relaxation. You can do what ever you feel is right for you during that session, it is YOUR time. However, we may initiate verbal communication in regards to the pressure, or communication pertinent to health findings during the treatment.

After my appointment, is there anything specific I should do?
It is recommended to drink plenty of water to keep your tissues hydrated after a massage. After a treatment it may be beneficial to use ice or heat therapy as directed by your therapist. This will aid in the natural healing process of the body. The therapist may also recommend after care such as stretching depending on the needs of the client.

Will it hurt?
It depends on the type of therapy and what kinds of problems you have. A general relaxation Swedish massage should not hurt. However, therapy such as Deep Tissue that directly addresses myofascial problems may be painful when treating problem areas. However, most clients describe such feelings as "hurting in a good way". A good massage therapist pays careful attention to both verbal and nonverbal cues from their client to determine how deep to go. It is important that you let us know if you are feeling any discomfort throughout the massage.

NO TIPPING POLICY
Its a good thing!

But why?
Of course we can all agree, money is great. And I very much appreciate the recognition of a job well done. However, I consider the massage I provide to be an important part of your regular wellness care, similar to the medical professionals you visit regularly, or the activities you participate in for better health. It just feels better to me, as a professional, to not accept money above my published fees of service, and frankly it sometimes can be a little awkward. What you see published or requested as the rates for service is all you have to pay. I want to keep things easy. You do not need to worry about how to tip, how much to tip or worry about additional cost as a barrier to treatment. Most important is the quality of your massage experience and the results you expect. I strive to provide the same excellent, effective service each and every visit!

So, let's concentrate on YOU! I would prefer to see those extra dollars go towards your own continued wellness journey through massage therapy.

**On occasion you may see an opportunity in the studio to participate and donate to a local charity or cause, it would be wonderful to see your generosity go towards helping those in need!

If you have found that we did not address an important issue, or if you have specific issues to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact us!

We are dedicated to making your visit comfortable and enjoyable!
